5 Tips to Driving Green

Mother earth would definitely benefit if we all drove green. How do you drive and save the environment at the same time? Here are 5 useful tips to getting you driving down the green lane and saving green too!

1. This definitely tops the list to going green when it comes to driving, stop driving!  Some of us don’t have that option so what you can do is drive slower instead. A majority of vehicles perform best when driving around 55 MPH on the highway. You’ll save the environment and save gas at the same time.

2. A tire’s roll resistance alone uses 20% of your fuel consumption. To save gas and drive smart, purchase quality, top of the line tires.  It may cost you more out of pocket but they will perform better and save you more in the long run.

3. Lighten the weight in your car.  You can start by taking out anything you don’t need in your trunk. If you don’t need it, get rid of it. You’ll be driving smart and saving green with a light load and you save gas too! driving-green

4. Turn off the engine if you’re idling for long periods of time. You burn the same amount when you restart your engine as you do idling for 1 minute. If you think you’ll be sitting for longer than a minute, cut the engine. You’ll save gas and money.

5. Don’t be a rough driver. Driving like a maniac with sudden accelerating and hard braking uses more gas than if you didn’t. This kind of driving also puts more wear and tear on your car. This will cost you more and hurt the environment.

Driving smart is really just common sense. If you really need to drive, then drive smart and save green. If you can walk, ride a bike, or use public transportation, do so. You’ll be helping the earth even more. How green is that!
