GREEN Your Memorial Day
If you live in the U.S., you know Memorial Day in May is a red, white and blue holiday but you can also make it GREEN when it comes to your holiday party, sporting events and barbecues. Here are some great ideas!
Do you have a sporting event planned for the holiday? Instead of driving a car why not walk? You’ll save the environment by polluting less and saving some green on the gasoline. The exercise is good for you too!
Is your sporting event too far to walk? No problem, carpooling is a better idea then to have everyone in your party drive seperately. You could ride your bike too and lessen your carbon footprint while saving everyone money on the high cost of gas during the holiday.
Planning a barbecue for Memorial Day? Try using a ‘green’ fuel such as a biofuel. Examples include coconut husks or lump charcoal which are recyclable and biodegradable.
Not sure you want to use the biofuels for a barbucue? How about a solar powered grill? I just tweeted about a solar cooker not too long ago, Two Cardboard Boxes and Some Paint = a $6 Solar Cooker to Save the World http://short.to/ajzr. It’s cheap and saves the environment!
If you’re cooking all the food for your party guests, try going organic. You can easily find organic fruits and veggies at your local grocier and give your friends and family a greener, healthier menu. If you really want to add some ‘green’ to the menu, look also for locally produced foods that will lesson carbon emissions used to get it to you.
If you’re mowing your lawn to make sure it looks great for all the guests that come over for your party, GOGREEN by mowing it manually. You get a great workout and lessen carbon emmissions by skipping the gas mower.
After the party’s over, clean it up the ‘green’ way with all natural, biodegradable cleaning products. ‘Green’ cleaning products work just as great or better than your conventional cleaners and it’s way better for our environment.
The holidays is here and keeping the day ‘green’ is easy to do so don’t skip these ‘green’ ideas. You’ll have a great, healthy time and know that you’re also saving the environment.
